Fuel Empty.....Recharge
It's been about 3 weeks since my last update. I've been on this thrive of next-level-skating for 4 weeks in a row now. As I said before during summerseason, so that would be wednesday through sunday, next to a fulltime job. Been jumpin' and skatin' around all over and got to pay for it allright. Fuel empty, battery real low, used up all my reserves. The last two weeks the weather has been smothering hot on some days together with very little sleep, not feeling terribly hungry because of the hot weather and doing this topsport thang (which some people still do not understand or believe when you tell them it's just not only dancing but a real sport). It's a contradiction in some ways; on one hand it gives you so much energy, but on the other hand if you do not care enough about staying in good health and in physical balance you will sell yourself short. Only a few times in my life I have felt more tired then I do now. I still sleep short hours but when I close my eyes I just fall into a coma of some sort (and that's quite unique because I ALWAYS have trouble falling asleep).
So last week I did the sensible thing, skipped 2 evenings of skating just to rest, take some extra vitamines, eat fresh vegetables and fruit, and slipped into bed earlier than I normally do. And keeping myself busy with total other stuff then skating. Good for me and for the other stuff, because they were neglected for some time now hahaha.
Last Saturday we all (most of us) attended the rollerdisco held at the Skatefestival 2004 in Amsterdam. A giant iceskatingrink was transformed into a rollerdiso and the finales of the European Dance Championships were held that evening. We all set up the Quadsk8 booth for skaterental in about half an hour. My job there was helping Quadsk8 with the skate rental that evening, so I didn't get to roll that much on the dancefloor, but it was quite interesting to see other skaters from other cities and countries do their rollerskating. Also had some real nice conversations with people that got really enthousiastic about learning how to dance on skates. Because of course, while standing behind the counter I jammed on my skates when I could. Brought my sister and her friend to help us out with the skate rental and the cloakroom. I let them put some skates on and allthough they both have never skated
before in their lives at the end of the evening I heard them shout: "Look, look, look at me, I can make a turn!!!". So in between helping people with renting some skates and putting away their bags and listen to some odd stories about why people did not have money to rent skates but wanted them anyway ?!? they skated circles all evening and had a real good time of fun. Now that made me happy too! And sunday I did the SundaySkateSwing again, for about two hours and fell asleep at 7 pm!! till the next morning.
I'ts midnight now, had two days of rest and later on today we start the the whole routine again with the last WednesdayNightSkate, if the weather permits. Then about 2 more weeks of outside (organised) activities. And I come to realise summerseason is really short over here :-S
Can we bring an Indian Summer over here, that would not be a bad idea!!!
